Economic times have influenced multiple different arenas when it comes to cutting costs to survive. The question is; should it cross over into the academic world and future students educations?
Where does the eBook fall into play when it is compared to a regular paper scholastic textbook? Textbooks are expensive. Each year the amount of money that is spent on textbooks is amazing. This is one of the reasons that eBooks have begun to look more and more attractive. The resale value on regular textbooks has always been an issue for students who barely have even used their book, but it cost them a mint to buy. There is also the issue of useless information that is in many of the textbooks. If they were more individualized for the teachers that are teaching the subject it might eliminate some of the problems.
EBooks. There are a number of educational facilities that have begun to test out eBooks and there practicality. They are guided under the assumption that this generation, and upcoming generations, will respond better to this way of learning because they are already surrounded and influenced by so much technology. One of the known benefits of the eBooks is that it provides up to date information via Wi-Fi and the web. The updated editions and versions of the books are much more accessible, and very quickly downloadable than a regular textbook.
There are downsides to every upside. Some of the current eReaders are not capable of highlighting or note taking. This can be a problem for a student that functions well with making note to the side, and highlighting key information. Some of the testing institutions have already voiced their concerns, and manufacturers have begun to implement those functions into production.
It comes down to the bottom line. If educational institutions see they can save money and attract more populace, than they will begin to change to fit that niche.
